Jason Statham’s Departure from The Transporter Franchise and Hobbs & Shaw Sequel. In 2002, Jason Statham rose to fаme as the enigmatic driver and action hero, Frank Martin, in The Transporter. While his career boasts numerous impressive films, one franchise that stands out is the iconic Transporter series.
However, Statham made the decision to pass on reprising his role for The Transporter 4, citing practical reasons. When approached to participate in The Transporter: Refueled, he declined, severing ties with the $315 million franchise.
In an interview with Vulture, Statham revealed that he was asked to commit to three more films without even seeing a script. Furthermore, the offer presented him with less money for all three films combined than what he would earn for just one film. As a result, he saw no value in accepting the offer without a script or fair compensation.
Consequently, Ed Skrein took over the driving seat in The Transporter Refueled in 2015.
Another notable role for Statham was in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, a spin-off film where he portrayed Deckard Shaw alongside Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Luke Hobbs. Their undeniable chemistry led to talks of a Hobbs & Shaw 2. However, Statham chose to join the mainstream Fast & Furious series instead.
While the casting details for Hobbs & Shaw 2 remain unknown, it appears that Statham will not be a part of the upcoming sequel. Dwayne Johnson confirmed that he and Jason Momoa tried to involve Momoa in the film as his brother, but his busy schedule prevented it. However, Hiram Garcia from Seven Bucks Productions confirmed that Hobbs & Shaw 2 is actively being developed, with the story currently in the writing phase.
As of now, it remаins uncertain who will join the cast for Hobbs & Shaw 2, but Statham’s involvement seems unlikely.
