The Brooklyn waterfront has become a favored destination for New York celebrities, as evidenced by Kendrick Lamar, the music icon, who recently acquired a triplex penthouse for $8.6 million (approximately AU$13.1 million). The West Coast rapper, famous for his hit song “Control” where he controversially proclaimed himself the “King of New York,” seems to have found his three-level haven in Brooklyn.
Other notable figures like Matt Damon and Amy Schumer, prominent screen actors, own condos in the area, while pop sensation Ed Sheeran is currently renting a luxurious residence there.
Lamar’s new home, situated in Brooklyn Bridge Park, features four bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, and was initially listed for $8.99 million. According to the New York Post, it will serve as the Pulitzer Prize-winning rapper’s pied-à-terre whenever he visits the city.
Lamar, who has garnered 17 Grammy Awards and received nominations for 30 more, resides in California with his fiancée and high school sweetheart, Whitney Alford, along with their young son and daughter. The spacious townhouse-style property spans 290 square meters and includes floor-to-ceiling windows, impressive 5.5-meter-high ceilings in the living room, and breathtaking views of Manhattan.
Additionally, the residence boasts a chef’s kitchen, a cozy den, reclaimed pine floors, and approximately 185 square meters of outdoor space spread across two levels. The outdoor area features a private rooftop that offers views of the East River and Brooklyn Bridge Park.
The building provides various amenities, such as doorman and concierge services, gyms, a meditation studio, a children’s playroom, a pet wash, bike storage, and on-site parking. Additionally, residents have access to the amenities of the 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, including its rooftop pool and bar.
