In preparation for the upcoming Grammy Awards in March, Big Sean and Nipsey Hussle’s song “Deep Reverence” will compete for the Best Rap Performance category. On Friday, March 5, Sean unveiled a photo showcasing his collaboration with the late rapper, Nipsey Hussle.
The 2020 HipHopDX Comeback of the Year nominee embarked on a journey across Los Angeles, visiting various paintings, murals, and basketball courts to pay tribute to Nipsey. He sought advice from West Coast legend Snoop Dogg, who was cruising around town in a sapphire blue lowrider.
Many artists who had previously worked with Nipsey Hussle, such as Dom Kennedy and “Һit-Boy,” also make special guest appearances in Sergio’s video, which serves as a tribute to the All Money In frontman’s legacy.
The bittersweet video release comes over six months after its initial debut in August 2020. Nipsey’s tragic shooting occurred outside his Marathon Clothing store in March 2019.
Big Sean expressed his gratitude to Nipsey Hussle, stating, “To one of the truest, most grounded people to ever @nipseyhussle! Thank you, my friend! You always bless us all! It’s deeper than 4Life, it’s forever.”
A Grammy win would mark Nipsey Hussle’s third overall, following several posthumous awards received in 2020. On the other hand, Big Sean is still in pursuit of his first golden trophy, despite receiving five nominations over the past four years. “Deep Reverence” faces tough competition from songs like “The Bigger Picture” by Lil Baby, “Sаvаge” by Megan Thee Stallion and Beyoncé, “Dior” by Pop Smoke, “WHAT POPPIN” by Jack Harlow, and “Bop” by DaBaby.
