A number of attacking players have been linked to Arsenal ahead of what could be a significant summer transfer window. Due to FFP restrictions, the Gunners, like the majority of other Premier League teams, didn’t conduct much business in the January window.
Consequently, when the summer transfer window opens, we might expect to see Arsenal make up for such a quiet January window. Although they are not quite the finished product, the Gunners have had an incredible season and are still very much in the running for the Premier League championship.
Mikel Arteta, for example, could use some elite cover and competition for Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka on the wings.
Over the past few months, Donyell Malen, Pedro Neto, and Nico Williams have all been linked to moves to Arsenal.
And now, Gunners-supporting writer Charles Watts has offered an update on the connections between the three previously mentioned individuals and the north Londoners.
“My understanding is that Arsenal are looking for a player who can operate in the wide positions,” wrote Watts.
“And Malen has obviously done very well since leaving north London in 2017 and going to PSV and then to Dortmund. But I would be surprised if he is a genuine option for Arsenal.
“What I do know is that they have a long-standing interest in Pedro Neto, while Nico Williams is also understood to be high up on their list of potential targets.
“I think those two players are far ahead of Malen in the summertime pecking order.”
Williams, who supposedly has a £43 million release clause, is just 21 years old and has already made over 100 appearances for Athletic in addition to 13 caps for Spain.
Claimed to be a “incredible” athlete, the La Roja prodigy has been compared to Kylian Mbappe in terms of speed.
Neto, on the other hand, has 134 Premier League outings under his belt for Wolves, while having only five caps for Portugal.
The 24-year-old, who is valued at £60 million, is also “highly regarded as one of the best young talents of his generation,” and this evaluation is justified in light of his contributions to Wolves.
It will be interesting to watch if Arsenal makes a move for at least one of the three elite players—Malen, Williams, and Neto—during the summer transfer window.
