Amazon MGM Studios Acquires “Levon’s Trade” Starring Jason Statham, Ensuring Theatrical Release. Amazon MGM Studios has made a significant acquisition by purchasing the action-packed film “Levon’s Trade,” featuring renowned actor Jason Statham. Directed by David Ayer and written by Sylvester Stallone, the movie is based on the novel by esteemed comics author Chuck Dixon. The announcement of the film was initially made in October 2023. Set in motion this spring with shooting taking place in London, “Levon’s Trade” follows the story of Levon Cade (played by Statham), a reformed criminal leading an upright life. However, when his boss’s teenage daughter goes missing, Cade is called upon to employ the skills that made him a legend in the world of black ops. As he delves into a deep criminal cоnspiracy, both his and his daughter’s lives come under threаt.
This acquisition by Amazon MGM comes shortly after director Doug Liman expressed disappointment with the studio’s decision to release his Jake Gyllenhaal-led remake of the ’80s film “Road House” exclusively on a streaming platform. In an op-ed, Liman voiced his concerns about the lack of theatrical release, highlighting the impact it has on filmmakers, stars, and their opportunities for recognition during award seasons.
However, Amazon MGM has since emphasized its commitment to theatrical releases. In addition to “Levon’s Trade,” the studio has announced two more films slated for theatrical distribution: Zoe Kravitz’s directorial debut “Blink Twice” and the coming-of-age comedy “My Old аss” starring Aubrey Plaza (currently in final negotiations).
With this latest acquisition, Amazon MGM continues to solidify its presence in the film industry, ensuring that “Levon’s Trade” will reach audiences in theaters.
