Elon Musk Opulent Life: Elon Musk Bought Bel Air Mansions for $72 Million

Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, is estimated by Forbes to be worth $20.7 billion, and he certainly lives that way.

According to Variety, Musk paid $24.25 million in 2016 to purchase a new property in the upscale Bel Air neighbourhood of Los Angeles—and he has even bigger goals in mind. In fact, Musk is still building his sixth house in the same neighbourhood, which is his most recent acquisition. His total real estate investment in the area is estimated to be over $72 million when you add it to the $48 million he paid on his prior residences.

The computer tycoon now has his own expansive complex in a highly sought-after zip code nestled in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains, thanks to the proximity of all the properties. His primary home these days is a mansion he rented before purchasing it in 2012. Although there is plenty of space on that pad—20,248 square feet—Musk, like his company, has plans to grow.

This is a glimpse into his life in Bel Air.

Since purchasing the $17 million house in 2012 (seen with an arrow), Musk has turned it into his own. He purportedly closed an off-market deal in 2016 to pay $24.24 million for a nearby property (shown by a circle). The newest residence is an ultra-contemporary, spec-built house that is still under construction and sits on a ridge with a view of Bel Air.

Musk’s $17 million main residence is situated high enough to provide a view of the Bel Air Country Club, and it has a majestic and traditional appearance. It boasts a large outside area with a pool and a full tennis court.

Bloomberg was given a televised tour of the house, which was dubbed a “castle,” and saw all the facilities and interior design up close. Musk claims to enjoy playing video games in his own home theatre as a way to relax. In addition, Bloomberg mentioned seeing a “mink throw” in his living room.

The house has four half-baths, seven full bathrooms, and seven bedrooms. A home gym is also present. According to Musk, he attempts to exercise twice a week.

Born in South Africa, Musk appears to be settling down in California, where he is surrounded by almost every kind of luxury imaginable. However, his goals remain much higher: he intends to use SpaceX to colonise Mars after that.
