Jason Statham’s Planning Spat with Dyslexia Education Charity Ends in Defeat. Action star Jason Statham, known for his roles in movies where he battles gangsters, aliens, and even sharks, recently found himself on the losing side of a planning dispute with a dyslexia education charity. The 56-year-old actor objected to the construction of a workshop near his £5 million mansion in a prestigious South London neighborhood, citing concerns about the use of “standard Velux” skylights instead of conservation skylights.
Despite Statham’s objection, planning officials granted permission for the workshop to be built on the grounds of the Grade II-listed mansion, which houses the charity. According to planning documents from Southwark Council, Statham and his model fiancée, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, expressed their worries about the skylights directly facing one of the bedrooms and not being in line with the conservation skylights used for their own property. However, their objections were ultimately disregarded.
It is not the first time Statham and Huntington-Whiteley have been involved in planning disputes with their neighbors. In 2021, they successfully obtained permission to remove a cherry blossom tree from the front garden of another one of their properties in West London, despite neighbors’ concerns about privacy.
Having recently returned to the UK from California, where they owned a £14 million mansion, the couple has been keen on establishing roots in London and being closer to their families. However, this recent planning setback suggests that even Hollywood action heroes like Statham can face challenges in their personal real estate endeavors.
