Have you ever considered that a lesson based on your favorite pop culture icon would make learning more interesting? Swifties at De Las Salle University – Dasmariñas Senior High School are achieving their highest potential.
DLSU-D SHS is providing a course called “Speak Now: Swifties Unleashed” that delves on American pop icon Taylor Swift’s musical skills. In addition, the school will offer more “eclectic electives” during the forthcoming second semester of the school year 2023-2024.
In addition to the Taylor Swift elective, DLSU-D SHS will offer electives focused on Spongebob, K-pop, motorcycling, and cats in the forthcoming semester. The school has previously taught classes on Star Wars, Harry Potter, Disney films, and anime.
Of course, there are electives designed to match students’ desired college programs rather than their interests. Students have the option of taking one optional class per semester.
This seminar will look at how Swift’s public persona might be used to investigate politics, race, gender, and class, among other topics.
For Swifties in college, the University of the Philippines Diliman just announced that they will be providing a Taylor Swift course for the next semester as part of the BA Broadcast Media Arts and Studies program.
Additionally, the institution is set to release a study on the P-pop group SB19. UP Diliman has previously provided a course focused on Korean drama.
Though having pop culture-themed classes is unusual, we can see how it may offer an interesting layer to school life. Furthermore, we’re curious about how pop culture influences our society in ways we frequently don’t realize!
This list of reasons to become an A’TIN will help you learn about SB19 without having to join a class. If you’re going to Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour in Singapore, check out our comprehensive Singapore concert guide for Filipinos!
