In the world of rap and urban music, we are accustomed to seeing displays of immense wealth and extravagance. However, sometimes things are not as glamorous as they appear.
Just ask the Rick Ross look-alike in the music video for ‘Speedin’. The rapper recently revealed that the actor who served as his stunt double and jumped off a bridge in the music video was only paid $300 for such a risky feat.
Just a few days ago, Rozay shared this information on his official Instagram account, acknowledging that the payment made to the stunt double was quite small. In his own words:
“Just behind me is the world-famous bridge where it appeared that Rozay was jumping into the sea. But, just so you know, the guy who jumped for me, he’s a real G. He did it for $300, you feel me?”
In the music video, released in 2009, Ross and Khaled are seen driving around Miami until they get pulled over by the police for speeding. Rozay then stops the car and appears to negotiate with the police officer. Things escalate, and Rick Ross jumps off the bridge into the water. Now we know that it was a stunt double who performed the jump, and we also know the ridiculously small amount he was paid for it.
The music video was not only popular for the song itself but also for featuring cameos from notable names like DJ Khaled, Fаt Joe, Gunplay, Trina, and Diddy. To add to the mix, the track includes a feature from someone who is now infamously known for his sexuаl crimes, R. Kelly, who is currently in prison.
Hip-hop is a genre that aims to portray glamour and luxury, even originating from disadvantaged backgrounds. However, when we learn the details of music videos with such high budgets like ‘Speedin’, we realize that things are not always what they seem behind the rap stars, their cars, and their homes.
