Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has been awarded the Premier League Player of the Month for November and December following his impressive performances. The midfielder played a crucial role in guiding the Gunners to four consecutive victories, allowing them to establish a seven-point lead over Manchester City at the top of the league table.
During November and December, Odegaard contributed with three goals and three assists, making him the player with the most goal involvements in the Premier League during that period. His outstanding performances made him the clear favorite to win the prestigious accolade.
Odegaard’s remarkable run began with a brace against Wolves before the 2022 World Cup break in November. He continued his impressive form after the tournament, providing an assist for Eddie Nketiah’s goal against West Ham United and setting up two more goals against Brighton. He also found the back of the net himself in Arsenal’s 4-2 victory.
The 24-year-old Norwegian becomes only the second player from Norway to win the Premier League Player of the Month award, with Erling Haaland of Manchester City being the first in August for his exceptional start to the season. Additionally, Odegaard is the first Arsenal player to claim the monthly honor since former captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in September 2019.
Odegaard was selected as the winner from an eight-man shortlist that included players such as Casemiro, Haaland, Ben Mee, Joao Palhinha, Marcus Rashford, Kieran Trippier, and his teammate Bukayo Saka.
Expressing his delight, Odegaard stated, “It feels great. I’ve said many times that this team has a lot of young, hungry players, and we play so well together. It’s a pleasure to be here and be part of what we’re doing now. I’m very happy to receive this award and to showcase my qualities alongside these talented players.”
