Even Jason Statham, known for his action-packed roles, tried his hand at beekeeping while filming Sky Original “The Beekeeper,” which premiered on January 12th. The study, which surveyed 2,000 individuals in the UK, revealed that beekeeping is set to gain momentum as a sought-after hobby for the year.

Alongside beekeeping, other emerging hobbies for 2024 include origami, collecting “old technology” like CDs, and foraging for snacks in the wild. The study also found that 47 percent of respondents expressed a desire for more unique pastimes. Beckham, Johansson, and Olympic diver Tom Daley, who enjoys knitting, were voted the most inspiring celebrity hobbyists.

The top 25 activities also featured open mic poetry, flower arranging, and geocaching, a treasure-hunting activity that utilizes GPS devices to locate hidden containers called geocaches. Additionally, 49 percent of participants indicated a preference for hobbies that involve outdoor and physical engagement, as opposed to more sedentary options like reading or blogging.

Furthermore, half of the respondents found enjoyment in hobbies that promote environmental well-being, such as creating bug “hotels” in their gardens. The study was commissioned by Sky in anticipation of the release of “The Beekeeper,” a film starring Jason Statham that explores one man’s pursuit of reve𝚗ge after his connection to a secretive organization called Beekeepers is exposed.

David Ayer, the director of the film, expressed his pleasure in seeing people embrace new hobbies in 2024. He noted the significant interest surrounding beekeeping and hopes that the movie will further enhance the enthusiasm for this captivating pastime.
